Educational pathway options to assist you in making the most of your study journey and career.

Committing to study can be a daunting prospect, which is why we want to make sure you get credit where credit is due. If you have studied the same Units of Competency in another VET qualification in Australia, completed relevant tertiary study or feel you may already have relevant skills and knowledge from work experience, you can apply for ‘Advanced Standing’.

By applying for Advanced Standing, you could reduce the time and cost of the course and you will be able to focus on the new content, rather than repeating old content. Nutrition Coach

The Nutrition Coach course provides Advanced Standing into the following higher education qualifications:

Certificate IV in Allied Health (Physiotherapy)

The Certificate IV in Allied Health (Physiotherapy) provides Advanced Standing into the following higher education qualifications:

Graduates of this course are also eligible for advanced standing in the SIS30315 Certificate III in Fitness and SIS40215 Certificate IV in Fitness.

How to get advanced standing

You can apply for advanced standing in one of 3 ways:

Recognition of formal study

  • Credit transfer from VET studies (Certificate IV, Diploma, Advanced Diploma), partial or complete, undertaken within the past three years with a registered training organisation.
  • Credit transfer from Higher Education (HE) studies, partial or complete, undertaken within the past three years through a University or private HE provider.

Recognition of informal learning

  • Recognition of Prior Learning – Equivalent skills or knowledge in a relevant industry that can be demonstrated with tangible evidence from within the last three years, or qualifications that may have been completed more than three years ago with relevant activity in the industry within the last three years to demonstrate currency of knowledge.

How to apply for Credit transfer from VET studies

Once you’re ready to apply, just follow these steps:

  1. Gather your evidence – For previously completed VET qualifications from another Registered Training Organisation (RTO), evidence for application of Credit Transfer should include your Academic Record, showing the successfully completed Units of Competency, graded C or CT.
  2. Apply online – Once you have your evidence, please complete a Credit Transfer & RPL Application.
  3. Self assess – Students are required to self assess what they think they might be eligible for based on their prior study. When you apply you’ll be asked to list the Units of Competency that you would like to apply for and you should ensure you have the evidence to show you’ve completed the same or a similar Unit of Competency already. You will complete this in the Credit Transfer & RPL Application online and can upload your evidence at the same time.
  4. Obtain credit – Once you’ve completed your application online, our Educational Pathways team will give you an idea of what you will get credit for within 14 days.

How to apply for Credit transfer from Higher Education

Once you’re ready to apply, just follow these steps:

  1. Gather your evidence – For previously completed HE studies such as a Bachelors, students must provide their academic transcript showing the successfully completed units and unit outlines for any relevant units. Your unit outlines are crucial to demonstrate evidence of equivalent study, these must include a summary of what was learnt in the unit, the assessment structure and the learning outcomes of the unit. Without these we cannot assess your application. These can be submitted via URL to a University resource or uploaded as a PDF.
  2. Apply online – Once you have your evidence, please complete a Credit Transfer & RPL Application.
  3. Self assess – Students are required to self assess what they think they might be eligible for based on their prior study. When you apply you’ll be asked to list the Units of Competency that you would like to apply for and you should ensure you have the evidence to show you’ve completed equivalent study. You will complete this in the Credit Transfer & RPL Application online and can upload your evidence at the same time.
  4. Obtain credit – Once you’ve completed your application online, our Educational Pathways team will give you an idea of what you will get credit for within 14 days.

How to apply for Recognition of Prior Learning

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) involves an assessment of your previous skills, knowledge and experience and how they may meet the requirements of your qualification.

Once you’re ready to apply, just follow these steps:

  1. Gather your evidence – Providing evidence of prior experience requires you to show you have met the assessment criteria for a particular Unit of Competency. You should gather your evidence first before applying, things you might include are;
    • Portfolio – A portfolio is a collection of assembled evidence that proves that you already have the skills and knowledge in the units or course for which you are seeking RPL. This should include the following information:
      • Job description
      • Performance management report or annual reviews
      • Minutes of meetings attended or conducted
      • Work examples that may include reports, articles or samples of work
      • Publications
      • Email or memo communication with clients or colleagues
    • Media – Media files, such as images, video or audio, which demonstrates communication, customer service or work skills.
    • Certificates or course transcripts – Certificates, Diplomas, Degrees, Statements of results, Courses completed at work.
    • Life experience – Community group involvement, Hobbies, Leisure pursuits, Membership of a committee.
    • Letters and references – Letters of validation from your employers, clients, community groups or people you have worked with.
    • Resume or work history – Documented along with supporting examples and contact details, as some references may require a follow-up phone call.
  2. Apply online – Once you have your evidence, please complete a Credit Transfer & RPL Application.
  3. Self assess – Students are required to self assess what they think they might be eligible for based on their prior study. When you apply you’ll be asked to list the Units of Competency that you would like to apply for and you should ensure you have the evidence to show you’ve completed equivalent study. You will complete this in the Credit Transfer & RPL Application online and can upload your evidence at the same time.
  4. Obtain credit – Once you’ve completed your application online, our Educational Pathways team will give you an idea of what you will get credit for within 14 days.

Appealing a Decision

If you are dissatisfied with a the outcome of your application, please speak with your Career Consultant or your Trainer & Assessor to understand your application within 14 days of receiving your results. Your supporting evidence is assessed in order to map it to the Unit of Competency, if the evidence is insufficient, we cannot grant advanced standing but we may be able to help you understand what additional evidence may be required.
