However, Chris only got into his studies when he discovered FIAFitnation’s PT Express which finally took him to where he wanted to be in the fitness industry.
“I did a Certificate III in Fitness before, but I never used the qualification. It was theory-based, and I didn’t feel like I was ready for the industry,” Chris said. “Instead, I worked in retail and sold cars for a while, but I’ve always been into fitness, and I just had to have another go at it.”
“I enrolled in FIAFitnation’s course and enjoyed the chance to refresh my knowledge. The staff and tutors were very helpful, and the course is flexible. As FIA classmates, we helped each other out. Everyone wanted to get everyone across the line, and we checked up on each other throughout the course. Because of that, we formed a strong network, and we still keep in touch.”
Chris also credits his kickboxing training for helping him complete his studies. “Near the end of the course, I hit a hurdle, but I knew how close I was to the end, and I knew I could push through. In hindsight, my advice to other students is to follow the study plan FIA provides!”
Before Chris finished his course, a large, well-known gym contacted him to see if he’d like to join their program. “It meant I started to develop my skills as a personal trainer and apply the knowledge I was learning through FIA. That was a dream come true,” Chris said. “My goal when I started studying again was to work in a gym like this and then branch out to my own business.”
Chris is now running his business, Roundhouse Fitness, combining his fitness knowledge with his kickboxing experience. “Getting started in business is tough, but FIA prepared me well for it,” he said. “As part of my studies, I developed a business plan. Now, I’m putting that into practice. I’m glad I decided to give study another go and that I chose FIA. Studying there didn’t just help me change my career, it helped me improve my lifestyle.”
Chris hasn’t ruled out studying again. He’d like to add strength and conditioning to his qualifications. “I’m happy working in the industry I love,” he said. “And, one day, I’d like to help combat athletes prepare for competition.”
