Working in the fitness industry requires dedication, passion and love of fitness, three qualities that current FIAFitnation student Jo Lindsay has in spades!
We sat down with Jo to ask her how she combines full-time work, studying at FIAFitnation and training in Martial Arts.
Where are you currently working and studying?
I currently work in the health and wellness industry in the corporate sector, for Healthwise Global. I have worked with FIAFitnation through my professional work, and there was no question of where I would study for my Certificate III & IV in Fitness (SIS30215,SIS40215).
How would you describe your experience studying at FIAFitnation?
The training team are world class at what they do. They’re passionate, knowledgeable, make learning easy and fun, and want you to succeed. It is a great community to be a part of, and I think you would be hard pressed to find that on this level anywhere else.
Can you provide examples of experiences that have stood out?
The learning environment has most impressed me in my experience with FIAFitnation. What’s great is that we have four different trainers who all have their own specialty areas. They interchange and teach the content depending on their expertise to ensure we have the best of everything to draw from.
I’ll never forget the inner workings of the human cell structure because of Anthony’s [FIAFitnation Certificate III in Fitness trainer] analogy of ‘The Cell’ as a ‘Nightclub’.
All our trainers have been working for years in their field and they are all inspiring to listen to. They’re all so generous with what they share with us regarding their experiences; this is such valuable industry inside information that you will never find in a textbook.
Tell us about your journey in Martial Arts.
I have recently achieved my Black Belt in Northstar Jiu Jitsu and I’m looking to become a trainer in my local Dojo to pass on my learnings to those coming up in the belts.
I’m also in training working towards my second ‘dan grading’ (martial arts ranking) which I’ll complete in a few years. This course is going to provide me with more skills and knowledge for my role in Healthwise along with the training of students in my Dojo
Where do you see yourself in 5 years? How do think your FIAFitnation qualification will help you get there?
I can’t say exactly where I‘ll be in 5 years, but I can tell you it will be in the Health and Fitness industry. Whether it is with Heathwise, or through my Dojo or a combination of the two, I hope to be involved in training and coaching people to be the best version of themselves.
My FIAFitnation qualification is giving me the best possible foundation to make this goal a reality for me.
